El Torky Lands Biggest Tour Title In Lagos by Howard Harding
November 9, 2014
- Egypt's Heba El Torky landed the biggest WSA World Tour title of her
career when she defeated Dutch champion Milou van der Heijden in the
final of the Women's Lagos International Classic at Teslim Balogun
Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.
The 23-year-old top seed from Alexandria reached the climax of the WSA Tour 15 squash event without dropping a game.
Her unexpected opponent, the third seed, made it through to the biggest
final of her career after upsetting Deon Saffery, the No2 seed from
Wales, in the semi-finals.
But El Torky, the world No29, was too strong for the 23-year-old from
Eindhoven ranked 20 places lower - winning 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 in 35
minutes to claim this inaugural WSA title in Nigeria's largest city.
The win marks the eighth WSA Tour title of El Torky's career - and her third this year.
