- On the day he celebrated his first appearance in the top 100 of the
PSA World Squash Rankings, Argentina's Robertino Pezzota claimed a
surprise title success in Australia when he upset second-seeded
compatriot Gonzalo Miranda in today's final of the Mackay Open in
Queensland.
Seeded three, 31-year-old Pezzota reached the final of the PSA
Challenger 5 event in its fifth year at the Mackay Leisure Centre in
Mackay – the seventh Tour final of his career – when he defeated No.5
seed Leandro Romiglio, also from Argentina, in the semis.
But Pezzota, now ranked 99 in the world, was too strong for fellow
countryman Miranda in the final, winning 11-2, 13-11, 13-11 to secure
the second title of his career – but his first away from South America.
