Illingworth Wins Las Vegas PSA Challenger by Howard Harding
14 May 2013
- US squash star Julian Illingworth scored the 10th PSA World Tour
title of his career on home soil when he beat Australian Zac Alexander
in the final of the Las Vegas Open, the PSA Challenger 10 event at Life
Time Athletic in Las Vegas.
After retiring from last week's Houston Open with food poisoning, the
New York-based world No55 was back at his best again in the eighth
event of the year in the new US Pro Squash Series - and did not drop a
game throughout the tournament.
Illingworth defeated third seed Alexander - the 24-year-old from
Queensland who is currently ranked ahead of the former US champion, at
48 in the world - 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 in 55 minutes.
The triumph marks the tenth title of Illingworth's professional career
- and extends his unbeaten record in PSA Tour finals to six wins since
March 2011.
Next step on the US Pro Squash Series for Illingworth is the Chicago Open in October.
