Samantha Cornett Checks In From Mexico City

May 28, 2012

Nicolette went on with Yathreb first, and they were three long games.  They both fought very hard, and there were lots of calls to make!  3-0 to Yathreb but the match lasted about an hour!

Yathreb has some really nice shots, and she played them very well today, even as Nicolette made get after get.

Aisling and I went on next, and I went down pretty easily 2-0.  I was down 8-4 in the third, and she didn't really look like she had any sweat on her!  I vowed then to make that happen.  Slowed down the pace from the fast and furious first two, where nothing was working for me and she was making great gets and drops.

The slower pace was almost magical, as I didn't feel my brain was entirely there, but somehow snuck two games!  But that was the end of the line, as in the fifth she was always at least 3 points ahead of me, due to errors on my part and very smart and sophisticated play on hers.  Really frustrating!  So 11-8 in the fifth to her.

Tonight will be an interesting match, can't wait to see what two very different styles offer the crowd!!
