May 5, 2015 Toronto (ON) – The SHOP.CA 2015 Canadian Squash Championships came to a successful conclusion on Saturday at the National Squash Academy in Toronto, with the crowning of this season’s National Champions. Twenty-one categories were contested after more than 700 matches over four days of competition, starting last Wednesday.

Samantha Cornett of Deep River, ON won her third straight Canadian Championship, defeating Hollie Naughton of Oakville, ON in four close games (11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-6). This was Naughton’s first appearance in the Women’s Open final, after claiming the bronze medal in 2014 and seeing continuous improvements in her game over the season.

Shawn Delierre was crowned the Men’s Champion, his second time at the top of Canadian Squash following his 2013 Championship and third place finish in 2014. Saturday’s final was an exciting affair against Calgary’s Andrew Schnell, who found himself in his second straight Canadian Championship Final. The entire match was back and forth, with the first two games going to extra points and Schnell answering each of Delierre’s advances to force a deciding fifth game. Delierre took it in the fifth 11-8 to finalize the 3-2 win (16-14, 11-13, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8).

Graeme Schnell and Danielle Letourneau, both of Calgary, captured the Bronze medals in the Men’s and Women’s Open, defeating Shahier Razik and Nikki Todd, respectively, in close matches. All of these athletes are in contention for the 2015 Pan Am Games team, which will be named in June.

The Men’s 45 division provide another exciting final, as a big crowd gathered to watch defending World Champion Wiley Hosey of Markham against Steve Wren of Gatineau, the top seeds in the event.  Hosey took the match in three games, but it was a great playoff of long rallies and excellent shots.
