We went to the Santa Monica
pier (see pic) to see the End of Route 66, which for us was actually
the beginning!! Our last two team members arrived and were collected
from LAX and came to meet the rest of the team. Now we are complete and
raring to GO!! Santa Monica is a beautiful city, and right on the surf.
We were entertained by street artists, great street dancers who pulled
people from the audience to dance with them – that’s when we all ran
away, especially Karina! However the younger riders did get Karina when
she was on the beach. They threw her into the sea, which I think she
actually enjoyed.
A building that attracted K, J, and C (our young riders’ initials) was
the Mayfair theatre built in 1911 and partly destroyed in the
earthquake of 1994. It has been re-built to its original grandeur and
is certainly a wonderful building. Surprising that they noticed this,
but very impressive.!
We are now at our secret training camp, and more wonderful food, from
our own chef Mark. We called into the local super market bought all the
great ingredients and are now looking forward to the last meal before
starting off on Route 66.
