- Peru’s Diego Elias has been named Player of the Month for August by
the authoritative London-based Squash Player magazine after an
outstanding July.
Not only did the 18-year-old win the world junior men’s title without
dropping a game for the second consecutive year, but he also claimed
the silver medal in the squash singles event at the Pan American Games.
The world no.43 is only the fourth player to win the men’s world junior
trophy twice and was the youngest player to reach a Pan American Games
squash final.
"It's what you work for,” he said. “It's thanks to my supporters,
trainers and family - especially my Dad, who pushed me and worked with
me - making this happen.
"This has been an important month for me, with the Pan American Games
where I played well to reach - and almost win - the final, and now this.
"It's an honour to join the list of people who have won this title twice and I hope I can continue to progress as they have."
