Gohar Named Squash Player’s Female Player of the Month from Squash Media

- Egyptian Nouran Gohar has been named Player of the Month for August
by the authoritative London-based Squash Player magazine after
upsetting the seedings to win the world junior women’s title for the
first time.
The 17-year-old second seed from Cairo defeated top-seeded compatriot
Habiba Mohamed 3/1 in the final in the Netherlands, reversing the
result of their meeting in last year’s final to give Gohar her first
victory over the 16-year-old.
"I didn't think of last year at all,” said Gohar after her 11-6, 7-11,
11-7, 17-15 victory. “I know I played badly then and I didn't want it
to affect me.
"The fourth was so tough. If I'd lost that, I don't think I would have
had anything left. I was so pleased to finish it in four. I really
don't know what happened at the end!"
Gohar’s win in Eindhoven capped a remarkable year, in which she has soared up the world rankings from 29th to 15th.
